Hurl your stress away at these top 3 spots for axe throwing in Edinburgh!

Sometimes, I need a fun way to unwind and shake off the stress. While I’m a fan of hitting the spa for a full-body treatment, there are days when I prefer to let off steam by throwing axes.

Now, I’m not an axe-throwing pro, but trust me, it’s an experience everyone should try at least once. You just book a lane, grab your axe, and aim for the targets. It’s that easy—and incredibly satisfying!

If you’re looking to give it a go, I highly recommend checking out these top axe-throwing spots in Edinburgh!

Game of Throwing is an absolute favourite for my husband and his pals. It’s got everything you’d want for a cracking good time! The interactive axe-throwing lanes and spacious setup make it a top-notch choice for a day out.

You can stick to classic axe-throwing at traditional targets or spice things up with the interactive lanes, which offer rounds of fun challenges like lighting up targets and more.

Each lane fits up to six players, so it’s a proper laugh taking turns to see who’s the best thrower. It’s competitive, exciting, and a wee bit addictive.

Tips:

  • For everyone’s safety, the game venue won’t allow spectators inside. You need to be a paying player to enter the axe-throwing venue (this way no one will accidentally get hurt by just standing in the wrong spot). If you want to spectate, you technically can, but you have to pay for your slot.
  • You can actually purchase tickets at the venue but only if they haven’t sold out online. I highly recommend booking your tickets early if you’re planning to visit on a weekend because this is usually when they’re packed! Also, they only accept full payments even if you reserve in advance.

Boom Battle Bar is a brilliant spot for a few pints or cocktails with your mates, but for me, it’s the axe throwing that really steals the show. With games for up to six players per lane and proper axes aimed at classic targets, it’s the perfect mix of skill and fun.

What truly sets it apart, though, is the atmosphere.

The buzzing vibe and cracking tunes in the background make the whole experience even better. There’s nothing quite like letting an axe fly while the music gives your adrenaline that extra kick.

Tips:

  • While Boom Battle Bar might be a bar, the axe-throwing lanes come with one golden rule: no drinks before or during the game. It’s all about keeping a clear head—because let’s face it, throwing sharp objects while buzzed isn’t exactly the safest idea. Staying sober ensures everyone’s aim stays sharp, and the targets (not toes) take the hits!
  • Since it’s a bar, minors are only allowed to join the axe throwing sessions before 7:00 pm and if they’re accompanied by an adult. Anyone under the age of 18 years old will not be allowed entry past 7:00 pm (even if you paid for the ticket online!).

How about taking your throwing game up a notch? At Battlezone Paintball, you’re not just limited to axes; you can hurl specially forged knives at massive log targets too!

This spot’s more than just an outdoor paintball arena; it’s a cracking place to channel your inner Viking. The rustic, open-air setting gives off proper hunting ground vibes, making every throw feel like you’ve stepped straight into history.

And the best bit? It’s a bargain! For just £25 a head, a group of 10 or more can join in on the fun.

Tips:

  • The management will ask you to secure a £10 deposit per person if you book online. This is to make sure that your lane reservation is booked and confirmed! You can pay your deposit using your chosen card by calling the phone number.
  •  I highly recommend booking a slot at least a week in advance, as slots get full quickly. You can easily check if all lanes are fully booked via the booking portal on their website.
