Unleash your inner dancer in these 5 best dance studios in Edinburgh

Location: I included dance studios that are situated in areas reachable by public and private transportation. Some may pose a bit of a challenge but are situated in visible, easy-to-find locations.

Facilities and layout: I included spaces that offer ample space for movement.

They should also have suitable flooring like sprung wood or Marley for safety. Full-length mirrors are also non-negotiable for monitoring and improving technique.

Amenities and equipment: I selected dance studios with amenities such as a quality sound system with Bluetooth for music, climate control for comfort during long sessions, and accessible changing rooms and restrooms for convenience.

Community reputation: I selected studios that have a good reputation within the local dance community, as this can influence student enrollment. I interviewed both past and current clients of the studios to gain a clearer understanding of the overall experience.

I’ve always been intrigued by the art of dance. I even recall dreaming about being a ballet dancer as a kid, only to quickly give up after my first attempt at tiptoeing—realizing it wasn’t as easy as it looked.

As an adult, I’ve tried a few beginner classes, and it made me feel like a kid again! Who knew that I’d be stumbling and catching my breath, but still have the time of my life?

If you want to have the best time like I did, don’t hesitate to dive in—it’s never too late to start something that will keep your inner child alive!

Fortunately, this city is not new to this form of art. You can find spacious dance studios in Edinburgh that cater to any type of movement you’re looking for.

Check out my top picks below!

How much do dance classes cost in dance studios in Edinburgh?

Dance classes cost £5 to £13 in dance studios in Edinburgh. This is the estimate per class. The rates vary widely depending on different factors such as studio, type of dance, and whether the classes are for children or adults.

As Scotland’s National Centre for Dance, Dance Base encourages people to incorporate dance into their daily routines, health practices, and personal journeys. They provide a different perspective, promoting dance as a way of life and not just an art form.

And before you ask—their dance studios are to die for! They offer four spacious studios equipped with a powerful sound system and adaptable for rehearsals or dance classes.

Speaking of, they also provide a variety of dance classes all year round! From ballroom to Bollywood, and even K-pop, they have it all.

While gathering information, I couldn’t resist feeding my inner child and tried their ballet basics class. It turned out to be more challenging than expected, so I’d recommend it to anyone with a bit of prior experience.

However, while they offer a considerable number of classes, it can be noted that some experiences are just better than others.

Some visitors have expressed disappointment, feeling certain aspects didn’t meet expectations. Accessibility has been praised, but concerns about the service suggest areas for improvement, with people saying staff could be more friendly and approachable.

Pros

  • Inclusive dance opportunities
  • Leadership of a professional dancer

Cons

  • Inconsistent dance class experiences

Fun workout in a welcoming, supportive environment

“Bollywood dance classes on Monday’s at Dance Base makes me look forward to something after the weekend is over. It’s not only a great work out but also a wonderful social space. I was slightly nervous on my first day but Rajani makes you feel welcomed from the get go. Beginning with a question of the day, a warm up and then dance, Rajani always has a warm smile on her face. Her passion and talent for dance is evident but most of all, her kindness and love for people makes your experience just even more special.

The dance class is a safe space, where anyone and everyone is welcomed. Highly recommend for anyone thinking about trying something new!”

“Best inclusive dance space out there. Drop ins are amazing. Such good energy from staff, good for beginners and the pros were making the choreo their own.”

The Dance House, previously House of Jack, offers dance classes for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced. Whether you’re into hip hop or contemporary, there’s something for everyone, including toddlers starting at age one.

The welcoming, supportive atmosphere makes it easy for anyone to join. I attended an open choreo class and found it surprisingly beginner-friendly.

The studio, available for hire, features a spacious room, sound system, and disco lights—ideal for dance groups, kids’ parties, and events.

The Dance House also hosts performances and workshops that showcase local talent at Edinburgh festivals.

Its talented youth frequently perform at prominent events like Breakin’ Convention, Leith Festival, and the Edinburgh Fringe. Meanwhile, adult dancers showcase their skills at venues and festivals such as the National Museum Lates and Hidden Door Festival.

However, the location can be challenging, as it’s not the most accessible in Edinburgh. Many dancers find it difficult to reach regularly, which could be a barrier for those eager to practice.

Pros

  • Spacious studio with amenities
  • Non-intimidating atmosphere
  • Available workshops

Cons

  • Accessibility issues

Highly recommended for kid’s self-expression

“Love this studio, Gabriele is an amazing teacher, kids love him.

My son can’t wait for his next breakdancing class. The lady at the reception was sooo lovely and helpful. I highly recommend this place for your kid’s self-expression, creativity, and fitness! Thank you”

Welcoming and friendly atmosphere

“My child has been going to House of Jack, and she absolutely loves it, and after seeing the end-of-year show, I was like ‘Omg, I totally wanna be able to do some of that, that looks so fun!’

So I went to my first adult hip-hop last night with my pal and had an absolute blast!!! I was a bit nervous, as it was totally out of my comfort zone, but everyone was so, SO welcoming and friendly. ”

Amazing dance party

“Absolutely recommend DN dance for an amazing dance party! The kids all loved it, the choreography was perfect and just what my little one was hoping for!

I can’t go without mentioning how much Miss Amy’s enthusiasm helped make it so special. We had a few very shy kids and to get them all up and dancing for the parents at the end speaks volumes.”

Fun from start to finish

“I recently had my party at DN Dance which Miss Amy host. It was brilliant fun from start to finish with plenty of games & dancing. Amy was a fabulous host making sure everyone felt included & part of the party.
